Thanks Giving !!

Adios Mexico !!

Now here we are in the United States of America !!!

We went to San Francisco and saw the Golden Bridge , Alcatraz Prison , the cinema studio in L.A , and we even gambled in Las Vegas !!! To put it in a nutshell , we tried to live the American dream !! Alas we didn’t win the jackpot 😦  Maybe it’s better that way ,  if we had  a lot of  money we would travel in super high standing hotels and it wouldn’t be so casual and authentic !!

At the moment , we are in the Big Apple , we are a little bit in advance but we was looking for stuffs for Thanksgiving which by the way , will be on November the 22 this years. As everybody knows for Thanks giving dinner you HAVE to cook a stuffed turkey ( animal dicovered by the first europeans settlers ) served with cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes with a pumkin pie for dessert.

In China , we visited  lots of monuments : The Forbidden City , the Temple of Heaven or the Great Wall of China. We really liked the traditional clothes that we saw there. It was so colorful and the designs were really unique , unfortunately it was also quite expensive.

If you are in the chinese capital ,you have to see or hear about Roast Duck. Of course in restaurants but also when you walk in the streets. It is so popular that some people in the street sell fake Roast Duck  !! You should try one of the most popular place to eat in town  : The Quanjude Roast Duck restaurant or some other places.

India is a very vast country and we had to stay there longer , not to miss anything about this amazing place and visit as many locations as we could. As usual we try to go on as many legendary places like the Tj Mahal.

Something that touched us was the differencies between poor areas and the more modern ones.  Even if they don’t live wich much, people  were amazingly welcoming. We even stayed some days at a local family house. It was an incredible experience. It made us more humble because even thought they didn’t had much , they invited us and share with us what they had.

This reminded us of a phenomenon that you may have heard of : couch surfing. If you are interested in travelling and having a real contact with the population , this concept is for you. It will make you able to live at people place for free which is great if you are on a budget. Here you will find more informations about it.

So we lived 8 days with the Sharma family. The women use to do the cooking and the food lovers that we are couldn’t resist helping them. One of our favorite dish was the Thali. It is a dessert very accessible and cheap.

You can recreate it by following the steps explaines right here. Don’t worry , you can find thes ingredients at any specialized indian grocer.

We also find some dishes for our vegetarian followers  as you may know , India cuisine is known for beeing composed of plenty of vegetarian dishes. Actually  many indians communities have been known for being vegetarian .

SHAWARMA

                                                             Hi !!

We just left Africa , now we are in Lebanon. Yesterday we took a walk in Beyrouth and we saw lots of small restaurants that reminded us of Kebabs that you can see in Paris. After walking so much , we wasn’t in the mood to look for a restaurant so we just stopped at one of this small place and ordered to shawarmas. It is really fast and easy  way to eat and like I previously  said it reminded us of kebab  or even tacos. It is not the most nutritional food that we can find here but it was perfect for the oaccasion.

                              Hey guys !!

Last time I told you how being in Mali reminded me of my parents native contry. So guess what ? We have decided to go to Congo !! I am so excited to be there , I have not been back over here since 2008 😦 .  I am so happy to be here with Salt and being able to show her around !! Unfortunatly we are only going to stay 5 days because of our busy schedule,  but it doesn’t matter as long as I have the chance to spend a little bit of time here. I would like to share with you an easy recipe that I have been eaten my entire my life : Mikaté. If you go to a congolese party  , wedding or even walk in the streets of Kinshasa, you have to taste those delicious donuts made in Congo !!

Making them is a piece of cake, you will only need : flour , a cube of baking powder ,sugar , oil , and warm water. Most of the time people eat them with peanut butter.

We arrived in Mali 3 days ago. We have been here only for 4 days and I am already loving it. People are really nice and welcoming. It reminds me of my parents native contry which is Congo. I have not  been there in years:(

Yesterday we ate one of the most known dish in the country : the mafe . It was originally from Mali but it is a speciality in many other west african countries such as Senegal ,Guinea…

It is basically made from lamb, chicken or beef cooked with a sauce made with peanut butter and tomatoes. It is usually  eaten with rice. There are a lot of diferrents variations , we just gave you the basic ingredients.

I find recipies from southern Africa quite hard to find  so if you are interested in seeing more look at the links below:

Let’s start with England !!

The typical british breakfast

Hey guys !!

We have decided that our first article will relate what we have seen when we was in England. We stayed there a week , and want you to have a more precise idea of what typical meals british people  eat during the course of the day.

So let’s start with the breakfast when you can eat a huge range of food such as :toast with butter , jam or marmelade  , eggs , bacon, baked beans , grilled sausages , cooked tomatoes , fried mushrooms , potato galettes , black puddings , bubbles and squeak …  You can accompanied your copious meal with orange juice , tea or coffee. That is quite a big amount of food to start the day !!!

Then , we usually had lunch between 12 and 1.30 pm. If you are in a hurry and on a budget , you will be able to easily find a ” Fish and Chips”. Here is one of the most trendy Fish and Chips in London , it is situated in Brewer street. To look at the menu head over there. The decoration is really nice and the service was excellent.

I had already tasted some fish and ships in Paris so we also have some adressses for our fellow french people or other people that would be in the area : http://www.lefigaro.fr/sortir-paris/2009/12/02/03013-20091202ARTFIG00007-fish-amp-chips-un-delice-so-british-.php

Of course we had to take a break at 5p.m. for tea time. You can find any variety of tea that you would like to try and accompanied it with pastries like apple pies , scones… If you want to make them by yourself we have some articles that  you could find useful :

Finally, between 6.30 and 8pm we eat diner,  called  “supper”. This is the main meal of the day that they usually eat with the whole family.
